WOODEN WORKTOPS
SOLID TIMBERS
One of the main advantages of a wooden worktop is that, unlike other surfaces which age over time and usage, wood does not lose its original splendour; in fact, it gains character over time. Some woods become richer and deeper in colour over time, becoming a part of your home in a personal way that other materials will not. A solid wooden worktop also has the added benefit of having the same unique grain running through the inside. If you want to drill through the wood, shape the edges or even carve designs into the wood, the continuity of the grain through-out gives a finish rarely available elsewhere. The durability of wooden worktops also means that surface damage or scratches can be easily sanded away to reveal a fresh surface.
ASH
Ash has an open grain texture, similar to a red oak but with very pale greys and honey tones. It has a very straight grain making it very strong and long lasting. An Ash worktop works well with kitchen cabinet doors of a strong colour.
BAMBOO
Bamboo is an environmentally responsible choice of kitchen worktop. Bamboo is a grass, rather than a tree, and can fully grow in just a few months. This relatively quick speed of growth significantly lowers the environmental impact of bamboo when harvested. You may also be interested in our Caramel Bamboo Worktops which share the same sustainability properties as our standard Bamboo Worktops and feature a warm, caramel hue.
BEECH
Beech is a very popular choice for worktops and also in the commercial sector for bar tops or restaurant tables as it is very hard-wearing and it's soft grain fits well with all types of interior designs and kitchen styles.
BIRCH
Birch worktops feature a pale, honey tone and varied grain pattern, with a naturally iridescent sheen, making them a versatile choice. Birch is an attractive timber that serves well as a hard-wearing and robust work surface. A unique choice thanks to their lustrous finish, these surfaces are a warm addition to any kitchen.
CHERRY
Cherry has a distinctive grain and a lovely rich red tonal wood which will darken over time to give a very natural feel to your kitchen. Cherry is a moderate hard wood but very solid and so it weathers well in a kitchen situation if cared for.
IROKO
Iroko wood is often called African Teak and again is a very hard wearing, durable wood. Perfect for use in worktops, This wood, like teak, has a fairly irregular grain and a course texture that makes it easy to recognise. One of the real beauties of Iroko is that it will darken over time. Known for being particularly resistant to temperature and moisture fluctuations, An Iroko worktop will take the pressures of any busy kitchen in its stride.
MAPLE
Maple is a light coloured wood that has an open wavy grain but it is tremendously hard wearing. Traditionally the first choice for butchers block/end grain - but ideal for all kitchen worktops especially in darker kitchens as it reflects light very well.
OAK
Oak worktops have a beautiful grain and colour variation, and being a natural product, the grain on each piece of worktop is unique which helps to create a wonderful surface complete with great character, definitely not something you can achieve with a laminated alternative.
WALNUT
Walnut is a magnificent timber. Walnut worktops are both robust and delicate, marrying rich colour variation with a slightly curved grain to give a naturally decorative finish. Choose walnut work surfaces for an ever-popular, stylish addition to your kitchen.
WENGE
Wenge creates a very dramatic scene for your kitchen with the nearly black base colour vaguely broken up by dark brown grain accents. It is much more dense than oak so makes for a very hard-wearing worktop, the timber version of granite!
